Your responsibilities

Excellent research needs state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and innovative digital services. With a team of about 50 experts, we will redesign ISTA's digital landscape over the next few years and implement an ambitious digital transformation programme to facilitate the Institute's rapid growth. Join ISTA on an exciting journey, drive growth and innovation by implementing our ambitious 2026-2030 IT & Digital Transformation Strategy.
As a project manager you will be a key player in reshaping our campus by leading projects such as providing a new digital workplace for our employees, introducing Microsoft 365 as the Institute's communication and collaboration platform, and upgrading to a high-speed internet connection. Your responsibilities in these projects include:

* Independently planning, managing, and executing sophisticated IT projects, with a focus on launching a cutting-edge digital solution
* Actively engaging all key stakeholders, fostering open, transparent, and solution-focused communication throughout your projects
* Expertly overseeing time, budget, and personnel, driving your projects with strategic insight and cost-effective precision to ensure successful and purposeful outcomes
* Working closely with our IT & Digital Transformation team and key stakeholders across the institute to foster synergies and drive transformation initiatives
* Ensuring that project deliverables meet or exceed industry standards and are aligned with project objectives and strategic goals
* Continuously improving the project management methodology and tools used at the Institute

Your profile

* Higher education in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
* Several years of professional experience in project management
* In-depth knowledge of project management methods and tools as well as business process design
* Sound technical background including transformation projects and migration to cloud-based solutions
* Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, IPMA or equivalent)
* Ideally, experience in designing and implementing change management initiatives
* Experience in IT service management and IT security frameworks such as ITIL and ISO 27001 is a plus
* Strong communication skills and ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
* You think strategically, act analytically and are solution-oriented, and demonstrate teamwork and resilience
* Experience in research institutes or in universities is an advantage
* Working language is English, good working knowledge in German is a plus

We are currently hiring a forward-thinking and results-oriented Investment Platform Full-Stack Software Engineer (f/m/d) with a good understanding of data infrastructure, developing APIs and web applications in an agile product development setup.

Within the Investment Technology team, you will contribute to the successful delivery of Investment Research- and AI-solutions, further enhancing our data-driven investment processes for our global Portfolio Management.

This position will be based in Frankfurt or Munich.

What you will do
* Build, maintain, and enhance backend components and APIs for the investment decision support systems
* Adhere to the standards of a compliant software development lifecycle and take ownership for delivery results
* Contribute to technical design setup to ensure compliance with performance, security, and regulatory requirements
* Develop and manage data pipelines, ETL processes, and compute workflows
* Contribute and steer together with the Multi-Asset IT solutions team the refactoring and architecture rework of existing code to improve performance and stability
* Design, build, monitor and enhance AI-backed solutions that simplify workflows along the investment process value chain
* Engage regularly with investment teams to understand and capture business and data requirements as well as gathering feedback, resolve issues, and align backend solutions with evolving business needs
* Support Business-As-Usual (BAU) operations including platform monitoring, issue resolution, and regular health checks
* Stay updated on innovative methods, new technologies and tools in the market, that can improve the efficiency, security, maintenance, and scalability of our platform
* Gain and develop an understanding of the Asset Management business

What you bring
* Ideally a minimum of 5 years working experience in the design and development of Web-applications, RESTful APIs
* University degree in Computer Science/ Mathematics/ Physics/ Engineering or equivalent
* Professional experience in designing, developing, testing, releasing, and monitoring solutions using one of Python, C/C++/C#, Java, Go or Rust
* Excellent foundation in the fundamentals of computer science: Data Structures and Algorithms
* Proven work experience in the design and development of Relational Databases
* Proficient with SDLC tools (Git and GitHub/GitLab, Jira)
* Hands-on experience with Databricks, Data Lake, Docker, Kubernetes, and Microsoft Azure/AWS/Google Cloud Platform
* Familiarity with large-scale ETL workflows and Spark, JavaScript and/or TypeScript and is a plus
* First experiences with AI solution building are a plus
* Interest in learning fundamental notions of financial markets and investment management including related data requirements
* Comfortable working in a dynamic, global, and culturally diverse environment
* Ability to work independently with a high level of motivation to design and deliver best in class solutions
* Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
* Agile mind-set, effective communication skills, enjoys business collaboration
